Filming Transformation with Pete Gomes at London Performance Studios
Here you can watch a three minute interview made by London Performance Studios about the week long filming process we did with Dr. Pete Gomes using the Transformation and Imaginative Improvisation process. Four actors- Company member Timothy Dodd, Gareth Watkins, Charles Sobry and Bartel Jespers spent the week in Tiger. These four actors had done extensive ‘active observational and physical research’ and are performers who have all been involved with productions and interventions by the company and are highly experienced in Transformation and Imaginative Improvisation. Forming an ensemble in the studio, Pete recorded durational improvised performance with live sound loops and lighting. The weeks work applied Pete’s own improvisational film making model in the ensemble - what he terms a ‘Unit’. Developed from research, this model explores dynamic camera- performer relations, where the operation of camera is improvisational, working within the unit, alongside performers as an active and responsive player.
The exploratory work has resulted in Pete making a new 40 minute performance film. A preliminary screening of it occurred at Studio Voltaire in December and we will keep you posted about future screenings!
