human/animal

Scroll down to jump straight to excerpt of Pete Gomes's film human/animal. Four actors trained in Transformation and Imaginative Improvisation with Gabrielle Moleta worked with film maker and artist Pete Gomes to create the 40 minute film human/animal. The actors, not new to this process nor to one another came together for the first time in such an intensive way thanks to the powerful work of the actors, Pete's vision and London Performance Studios. The actors Timothy Dodd,(who is also a founding member of Company Gabrielle Moleta), Gareth Watkins, Charles Sobry and Bartel Jespers spent the week observing and working in tiger. The actors were coached by Gabrielle through the week and Pete Gomes recorded durational improvised performance with live sound loops and lighting. Pivotal for this project was Pete’s own improvisational film making model, called a ‘Unit’, in the ensemble. Developed from research this model explores dynamic camera-performer relations, where the operation of camera is improvisational, working within the unit, alongside performers as an active and responsive player.

Here is a short interview made during our week at London Performance Studio which gives some background into our collaboration. The full length film had preliminary screenings at Studio Voltaire in December 22 and again in the autumn 23 . We will keep you posted about future screening dates and venues!
