Sacrifice at the Vaults

Tina Tieno’s hour long one woman show had its first performances at Vault festival in March.

I stepped in to direct Tina and help her craft this wonderful true story about one incredible woman’s journey to fight to save her daughter from child marriage.

Tina was a powerhouse of stamina and intention - it’s no mean feat working with your own family material. She wrote it, crafted so much of it and then brought me in to unpick, challenge, refine and sharpen the story. With my focus on bringing the physical life of her text into her body and into the space we opened it up and found beautiful truth and poignancy alongside the compelling larger than life characters that gave it such wonderfully vibrant energy. We discovered much together through the rehearsal process and in the run of shows Tina kept finding and refining elements of the complex story. It’s credit to her that ‘SACRIFICE’ took an ‘Origins award winner’ prize at the Vaults festival.

Let’s see where it goes next!
