King Lear Horse Rsearch in Greece
I am in Kalamata with KaDISS’s three week summer intensive. The focus this year is King Lear. Given that work in the animal is part of the training I’m bringing to the students, we were able to have an extraordinary day of research thanks to the wonderful riding school of Kalamata, run by
Nikos Drougas. We spent the morning observing the horses, and then Nikos and his nephew Dimitris invited us and expertly oversaw our swimming with the horses. It was an incredible experience that will stay with us for a long time.
What strikes me each time I come to work with The Circle of Art or the Kalamata Drama summer intensive, is investigation you wouldn’t imagine possible by way of usual theatre research, can and does happen here.
